Julia Burtscher has been playing the horn for over 30 years and lives in Toledo, Ohio. She earned a BA in Music from the University of Cincinnati and later earned her MBA from the same institution. Julia has spent most of her career in the railroad software industry, and is delighted to be the new executive director of the IHS!

Elaine Braun, Membership Coordinator

Elaine Braun, Membership Coordinator

Elaine received her BFA in Music Ed. from SUNY at Buffalo and her MM in Music Ed. from the University of Western Ontario. She taught Elementary Vocal, then Elementary and Middle School Instrumental music in the Buffalo area. While at Western she taught Horn, ran the Horn Ensemble and played Harp in the New Music Ensemble. She also taught at the Western Conservatory and was accompanist for the University Chorus. She has continued to play and sing in ensembles throughout her career as an Orchestra Administrator. In addition to being the General Manager of the Maryland Symphony and the Erie Philharmonic, she was Music Director/Conductor of the Fort Erie (Ontario) Legion Band and the Erie Philharmonic Chorus . She joined the Horn Society in 1972 and has served as Secretary-Treasurer, Coordinator for Canada and Coordinator for the US Representatives before becoming the IHS Membership Coordinator in 2017. She now lives in Nashville where she continues to play, sing and teach.

Jefferson Montiel, Social Media Coordinator

Jefferson Montiel, Social Media Coordinator

Jefferson Montiel was born in 1997 in San José, Costa Rica. He is a horn player, AV producer and digital artist.

As a horn player he began his studies at the age of 9 at SiNEM (National Music Education System of Costa Rica) with his teacher, Juan Carlos Porras. Later he obtained a professional degree in french horn performance at the University of Costa Rica, with professors Juan Manuel Arana and Mario Mora.
He has been a horn player in the orchestra of the University of Costa Rica, Symphony Orchestra of Heredia, Cartago and the Philharmonic of Costa Rica. He has participated in international orchestras such as the Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra and the Huntsville Youth Orchestra. He participated in the Tennessee Valley Music Festival 2014 and British Isle Music Festival 2018. In 2019 he won the young soloist contest of the Costa Rica National Symphony Orchestra. And since he was 18 years old he has been working professionally with the Concert Band of San José, capital of Costa Rica.

As an AV producer, he has a professional degree from the Véritas University and has worked as a director, cinematographer, assistant director and digital artist in music videos, short films, documentaries and commercials. He is currently studying advertising design and is a digital artist at his own creative studio, Monti studio.

Greg Cohen, Exhibitor Liaison

Greg Cohen, Exhibitor Liaison

IHS Exhibitor Liaison Greg Cohen lives in Santa Fe, NM and has been a familiar face at IHS functions since the early 1990's, attending annual symposia with his wife, former Executive Director, Heidi Vogel.

He brings over 30 years experience in a variety of fields to bear in his role with the IHS, including budgeting, financial management, live event management and administration. He’s worked extensively in technical and promotional writing, editing, proofreading, advertising and graphic design; Greg has created the program books for multiple IHS workshops, as well as designing the recently released IHS commemorative book, The First 50 Years.

Music has been key through most of his career in multiple roles; Artist Relations for Columbia and Warner Brothers music, event manager for the Seattle Paramount Theater, Advertising and Retail Coordinator for a chain of music stores, and director of non-profit arts groups ranging from the Juneau Jazz & Classics music festival to the Lanai Arts Center in Hawaii. Greg is a musician, playing harmonica in bands that range from Bluegrass and Folk to Rock and R&B for over 40 years. He has published 3 novels and a collection of short stories, is an avid photographer as well as painter, using acrylics.
